Literature Text

One times nine minus thirty-two,
Six eights and a fifty
Rolled up into you --
sitting on the floor in a cold, damp, quiet room.
One too many packages to try and sort shit through
All I really need is to get rid of you.

The rats are gnawing at the window covers,
but the space behind them's black --
and spiders with their carcasses
fail to double back.

Tainted crimson lines the gutter drain
Shining perfect blue
On the days
when it's the only thing
that holds them close to you

Still picking at your scabs, to draw against the pain,
you'll push the world away.
Nurturing your scars just to beat them back again,
It doesn't really matter what you say -
They're gonna see beneath it anyway.

So, one times eight minus eleven,
fifty-six given four --
Scraping your way down to heaven,
through a solid basement floor.
One too many packages to try and sort shit through
And all I really need is a way I can keep you.

And the lady doesn't know up from down,
a wreath of acid safety-pins serving as her crown,
Stains of black and blue weighting her down,
Pound for pound,
It's more than anyone could handle -
Smashing all the windows that open to the night.
I have an odd mind.

You're brilliant. But it's nothing I haven't said before.
